Putin says Russia is ready for nuclear war

JakartaHerald.com - Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Wednesday that his country is ready for nuclear war from a "technical-military" perspective. 

"From a technical military standpoint, we are certainly prepared. Our Russian forces are always combat-ready," Putin said during an interview with the government TV channel Rossiya-1.

Putin noted that it is widely accepted that Russia's nuclear triad - consisting of land, sea, and air modes - is more modern compared to others, and he stated that only Moscow and Washington possess such a triad. "We have made significant advancements in this area. 

Ours is more modern, with all nuclear components. Overall, in terms of operators and costs, we are on par, but we are more advanced," Putin further added.

The Russian President went on to say that the US has plans to enhance the modernization of its nuclear triad, but this does not mean that Washington is ready to initiate a nuclear war tomorrow. 

Commenting on the possibility of conducting nuclear tests, Putin mentioned that Moscow acknowledges the concerns of the US regarding such tests, based on the belief of some experts that explosive testing cannot be adequately done solely on computers.

"If they conduct such tests, I do not rule out whether we need it or not, it still needs to be considered, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that we could do the same," he exclaimed.
